Jones To Defend Selection

Black Stars head coach, Cecil Jones Attuquayefio, is to defend his selection list before a three man FA management team for his decision to invite an all locally based stars for Ghana's World Cup qualifier against Nigeria in Accra on Sunday.

Jones who prior to his release of the list of the locally based team had held a meeting with the Minister of Youth and Sports over his plans for the Black Stars and his decision not to invite the foreign-based players for the crucial World Cup match has been a subject to public debate as to whether his decision is the best or not.

According to FA member, Yaw La- Danso, the Football Association would not want to interfere in the coaches responsibilities but there is the other role of supervision played by the management team, hence the need for Jones to appear before them and explain the rationale behind his decision on not including any foreign-based player in his squad for the Nigerian match and also defend his decision of relying solely on the locally based players.

A bold decision by Jones which puts much pressure on him even though he goes into his last game for Ghana on Sunday, a win would settle him a bit whilst a lose would see to his dismissal.

According to the FA member, the FA is putting in place a long term programmes for the Black Stars especially for the playing body which includes the listing of all matches of the Black Stars for the clubs to indicate the matches that their Ghanaian internationals can honour, with a reminder of the mandatory seven outings by an invited player according to FIFA rules
