John Mensah: My injury problems are a thing of the past

Sunderland defender John Mensah has sent out a cry to manager Steve Bruce, insisting that he is fit enough to make regular appearances for the Black Cats.

The 27-year-old was at the Stadium of Light during the second half of last season, but was unable to make regular appearances owing to his injuries.

However, the former Rennes defender firmly believes that his fitness concerns are now a thing of the past.

"I will not be troubled by my old problems anymore," Mensah told the Daily Star.

"If the boss wants me to play in every game, I will do so.

"I am now getting special treatment at Sunderland like I had during the World Cup. I am confident I will play every match for the rest of the season."

The Wearside club previously gave the green light for Mensah to bring in his own physio to help with keeping his fitness levels high, and the defender believes that he is now reaping the rewards.

Mensah added: "I had special treatment during the World Cup and it made a big difference.

"If I follow that same programme I know I will be okay."
