Injury detains Frimpong in Aba

An ankle injury has prevented Ghana's U-23 international, Joetex Frimpong, from making the trip with his Nigerian club, Enyimba, to Kwale for today's Premier League match against host, Delta United, at the Kwale Township stadium.

"I did not make the trip to Delta United because of my injury. I am in a hospital receiving treatment," he said, in an interview with Ghanaweb, on Friday evening.

However, the Ghanaian forward expressed optimism that he will be ready for next Saturday's home match against rivals, Rangers International of Enugu.

According to him: "I should be ready for the match against Rangers. I am already looking forward to the game. It will prepare me for the Champions League clash against Simba of Tanzania."

Frimpong, who is the leading scorer in the Champions League, recently returned from Accra, where he helped the Meteors to beat Liberia in an Athens 2004 Olympic qualifier. He scored on his debut for the Meteors.

His Nigerian club, Enyimba, are on top of the Nigerian Premier League table, and they look good to retain their title.

Before today's matches in the league, Enyimba were eight points ahead of second placed, Rangers.
