I was star-struck - Patrick Nyarko

Chicago Fire forward Patrick Nyarko says he was star struck when he joined up with the Black Stars ahead of Ghana’s 1-1 draw with Chile earlier this morning.

Nyarko, who earned his first cap for Ghana as a substitute during the match, told reporters after the game that joining up with the likes of Sulley Muntari and Derek Boateng and playing on the same team made the occasion a special moment in his life.

‘I was kind of star struck yesterday when I joined the team. I saw Sulley Muntari and I saw Derek Boateng. I grew up watching those guys play and to be on the field when the national anthem was played was the most special moment in my life. I just stood there and wondered if it was all a dream.’

Touching on his own contribution in the match, Nyarko noted that the highlight of his performance was tackling Barcelona’s Alexis Sanchez, a player he considers as one of the best in world football.

‘I created a couple of chances but the highlight of my day was making a tackle on Alexis Sanchez. He is a brilliant player, so to get in on the act was pretty special.’
