I'm Worth Every Penny: Louis Agyemang

KUMASI Asante Kotoko's avowed aim to notch the most prestigious trophy in club football on the African terrain has seen the 2007/08 Premiership champions make one of the most stupendous transfer signings in the annals of association football in Ghana with the capture of Alex Asamoah for a reported 2 billion cedis. The Sylvester Asare-Owusu led management were easily the busiest of all the Premier League clubs in the off-season as they beefed up the team with some stellar signings like Asamoah, Stephen “B.A” Manu, Samuel Enzemaba, Hanan Gyiwah, Agyemang Badu and lately, the announcement of a 2 yr deal with former Hearts of Oak ace, Louis Agyemang. In an interview with 90 Minutes, the former Black Stars player was confident of making a name for himself in Kotoko, admitting it was a dream come true to play for the two most glamorous clubs in the country. “It has always been my dream to play for the best clubs in the country, but to play for both Kotoko and Hearts is something beyond my wildest dreams,” the former Kaiser Chiefs player said. “The perfect gift to give to the Porcupine family in return is to play my heart out and help them win more laurels as one of my dreams in coming to Kotoko is to help make the club better. Am I worth every penny Kotoko spent on me? Of course I am,” he said of the reported 550 million cedis Kotoko splashed on him.

With Alex Asamoah living up to the hype when he led Kotoko to pip Ashgold 3-1 at the Baba Yara Stadium last week, Louis sees it as a morale booster rather than a difficult challenge to deliver when he gets his opportunity to pull on the red colours for his new club. “Alex Asamoah was at his best when we played against AshGold,” he said. “I believe he did not need to prove himself to justify the reason why Kotoko bought him but he played well because of the love he's got for the club. With what he exhibited, it motivates me to get onto the pitch and also do what I know best,” he added. Louis concluded by saying that he has not given up hope of donning the national colours once again. “It is every player's dream to be called upon to represent his nation. My goal is to work hard both at training and on match days to catch the eyes of the national team handlers. It will be a delight to return to the national team fold and I believe Kotoko will be the best platform.” Louis however asked the fans to continue to support him with their prayers and he won't disappoint them.
