Former member of Ghana’s Senior National Team (Black Stars) Nii Odartey Lamptey has revealed that he previously signed his contracts with European clubs without understanding exactly what he had appended his signature to.

According to him, his unfortunate experience due to his lack of adequate education motivated him to establish his school (GLOWLAMP International school) in order to give back to society.

Speaking to Bola Ray on Starr Chat on Starrr FM Wednesday, Nii Odartey Lamptey who was heralded as the “next big thing” in soccer at that time by Pele of Brazil after his exploits in the 1991 FIFA under 17 tournament, stated that he played football for fun while his agents earned a huge chunk of his monies.

“After being a professional footballer I signed contracts without knowing what I was signing. I could not read or write…sometimes you sign a document you just don’t understand. I’ve been through this about twice, I was playing football while someone else was just earning the money. After going through that, that motivated me to set up the school. I think the best gift you can give your child is to give him education, nobody can take that away from him”
