Hearts of Oak claim FIFA compensation

Hearts of Oak have joined up with Zamalek to seek compensation from FIFA after they postponed this years World Club Championships.

A letter signed by Hearts of Oak's Board Secretary, Ernest Thompson, stated that the Ghanaian club is ready to append their signature to a letter of complaint initiated by Egyptian club Zamalek to FIFA.

Both clubs are claiming financial loss due to the cancellation of the tournament, which will now be played in 2003.

They are believed to be claiming a compensation package of $US 2.7million and have also requested an amount for $US 1.5million to compensate for the losses incurred so far, should the $US 2.7million request not be acceptable to FIFA.

According to the letter to Zamalek, should FIFA fail to give the required amount, the two clubs should be given an automatic right to participate in the 2003 competition without any conditions.

The two clubs were scheduled to represent Africa at the FIFA competition, which was to be hosted by Spain but with only a few weeks to go, it was called off due to financial problems of the sponsors, ISL, FIFA's marketing partners.
