Hearts beat Liberian side in a friendly match

Accra, Feb 19, GNA - Accra Hearts of Oak sporting club continued their impressive pre-season form last Sunday when they recorded a 2-0 victory over visiting Liberian side, Padeco FC in an international friendly match played at the El Wak Stadium in Accra on Sunday.

The match which was to showcase the newly recruited players of the Club, saw the Phobians opening the scores in the 27th minute through a spot kick.

This was made possible through Eric Gawu, who caused the Club 600 million cedis from King Faisal, when he was brought down in the vital area by a Liberian defender.

Skipper Amankwah Mireku converted the kick to put Hearts ahead by the close of the first half. Playing with a blend of both and new players, Hearts witnessed a stiff opposition in the second half but the introduction of Bernard Don Bortey in the second half aided them to secure the second goal.

Out of form Don Bortey had his over-head kick connected by Abraham Annan during injury time. Earlier in the day, another set up of Hearts made of both old and new players also defeated Swedru All Blacks by a lone goal in another friendly match.

Defender Nana Egyiri, formerly of relegated Ebusua Dwarfs scored for Hearts in the dying minutes of the game.
