Hearts' bankers given reprieve

AN Accra Fast Track Court has rescinded an earlier order it placed on bankers of Accra Hearts of Oak debarring them from transacting business with the club.

A new order has, however, been served on the banks and the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) to reappear on March 26, 2003.

The court presided over by Justice Agyemang Bempah explained that the garnishee order was wrongly served and that under the rules when such orders are served to banks it must provide an eight-day notice to enable them respond.

The banks are Standard Chartered Bank, Tudu branch, Agricultural Development Bank, Ring Road Central branch and SSB Bank, Pension House branch.

Meanwhile, Counsel for Hearts of Oak produced to the court a cheque for $10,000 as part payment to Mighty Victory but was refused by the court, who asked Hearts to go and negotiate with Mighty Victory Sporting Club as to whether they should still live by the agreed terms of paying in instalments or to pay the amount owed them in full.

Hearts of Oak are to settle Mighty Victory the sum of ?168 million and $28,000 for the transfer of Stephen Appiah to Italian club Udinese in 1997. Hearts received a transfer fee of $220,000 but failed to part with the colts club’s share of $40,000.
