Hearts Demo Against President Kufuor

.....Accuses NPP Of Bias
Supporters of Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club are planning to embark on a demonstration in protest at what they regard as ‘side taking’ by the NPP administration in matters concerning them and Kumasi Asante Kotoko. The supporters have made moves to secure a police permit for the demonstration.

Hearts of Oak supporters intended to go on the march on Thursday but had to postpone it because Parliament is in recess and also the Minister of State in-charge of Education, Youth and Sports, Rashid Bawa is in America with the Black Queens at the on-going women’s world cup tournament.

A security official who confirmed the story said although the supporters were pursuing their democratic rights, it seems their charge is unfounded and without basis.

When the Daily Guide contacted the chairman of the Supporters Union of Accra Hearts of Oak, Ato Quagraine, he confirmed that they have planned such a demonstration because there is unnecessary tension brewing between the two high profile clubs in the country.

Quagraine noted that there are a lot of heavy weight politicians in the ruling government who are Kotoko supporters and due to this, they believe their club is getting a raw deal. He mentioned some of the heavyweights as President Kufuor; Osei Kweku, the former Sports Minister, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Sampson Kweku Boafo, whom Quagraine claims, are all playing some undercover games with Accra Hearts of Oak.

When the paper spoke to the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, ACP Kofi Boakye, he confirmed the reports, but said his second in command has warned the supporters of the club against holding the demonstration.
