Gyandu park wall collapses

Strong winds followed by a heavy downpour in Sekondi-Takoradi caused a portion of the Sekondi Gyandu Park wall to collapse. The rains also rendered some parts of the metropolis flooded, causing traffic hold-ups and severed Sekondi from Takoradi. Though the over three hours downpour was severe, no human casualties were recorded.

Later in an interview, the officer in charge of the Sekondi police, Supt. Akuoko Oduro said the police have visited the scene of the collapsed wall. He confirmed that no casualties had been reported to the police.

The chairman of the Gyandu Park Rehabilitation Committee, Mr Felix Archibald Asamoah, in an interview, said the committee has scheduled a meeting to deliberate on the stadium incident. He said he has sent a word to the Ghana Football Association in Accra concerning the extent of damage caused to the stadium. He hinted that due to the nature of the damage, the Sekondi Hasaacas versus Accra Great Olympics premier league derby might have to be rescheduled.
