Gyan takes blame for Shanghai SIPG’s poor form

Shanghai SIPG striker Asamoah Gyan admits he needs to rediscover his good form to help propel the club’s ambitions this season.

The Red Eagles currently sit third on the league log, having won two, drawn two and lost one of their five games this season.

Gyan, for his part, has played three matches and netted once amid a series of injury setbacks.

“We can only get better,” Gyan was quoted as saying by HeraldSun.

“We just started the season, you can’t judge players on one game. Elkeson just joined the group and even now, he’s still adapting.

“The future is bright. We have a good team.

“The problem is me, I need to get back to my best because the team needs my services.

“As a group, we need to make sure we continue these results. It’s early in the season and we can’t lose games. We need to get our confidence.”

Gyan scored four goals in 10 games in his first season after transferring from UAE outfit Al Ain last year.

The Accra-born has also previously represented the likes of Italian sides Udinese and Modena, French club Rennes and English Premier League team Sunderland after his days with local side Liberty Professionals.
