Glo league postponed; three stadia on religious duties

Three of the nation’s state of the art stadia have been rented out to the Jehovah Witness church, forcing the postponement of the 9th week fixtures of the GLO premier league.

This was confirmed by PLB chairman Abra Appiah in an interview with Joy Sports’ Nathaniel Attoh on Monday.

The religious group, is scheduled to hold a three day international convention at the Ohene Gyan, Baba Yara and Essipong Stadia beginning from the 3rd to the 6th of December.

Consequently, the stadia will be closed to all sports activities from the 2nd to the 7th December and the Glo league is expected to be the worst hit.

The 9th week fixture which will see Ghana’s version of the el-classico between Hearts of Oak and Kotoko has thus been postponed to 13th December.

“With three matches off, and more so when it fell on the same time Hearts is supposed to play with Kotoko, we decided to hold on to all the matches,” he said.

The league will resume on December 13, 2009.
