Ghana-born Adu (not) training with ManU

LATEST: According to Sky Sports News Manchester United have confirmed to that American teenager Freddy Adu will link up with the club for a two-week trial.
EARLIER today: Manchester United have dismissed reports that teenage American striker Freddy Adu is due to have a training stint with the Premier League leaders.

The Washington Post reported on Wednesday that the 17-year-old talent had been given permission by his club D.C. United and Major League Soccer to train with United for two weeks later this month.

But United said on the club's Web site on Thursday: "The reports contradict a statement released last season in which United explicitly pointed out that Adu is not a player the club are currently interested in.

"Despite the recent bout of speculation, the club's stance has not changed and Adu will not be attending a trial."

Once seen as key to the future of the U.S. game, the Ghanaian-born forward became the youngest player to represent the U.S. senior team when he made his debut against Canada in a friendly in San Diego in January, aged 16.
