Ghana Hope for Hat-Trick

Ghana are set to claim a hat-trick in the African youth championship on Sunday in Addis Ababa, after beating Egypt 6-5 in a penalty shoot-out to reach the final. The Black Satellites will play Angola on Sunday - the second time both sides will be meeting in the tournament. Ghana won the first clash 1-0 in a group B game.

On Wednesday night the Ethiopian fans gave the Ghanaians full support against Egypt, after the home team had lost 5-2 to Angola in the first semi-final. After 120 minutes Ghana and Egypt were tied at 1-1. The Satellites scored in the sixth minute of extra-time through Stephen Tetteh from the penalty spot. Tetteh had arrived only in the morning of the game from Accra after playing for the senior national team in a Nations Cup qualifier last Sunday.

Egypt, however, levelled a minute later when Gamal Hamza blast his shot into the roof of the net from close range. Both sides then went on to score all five of their first set of penalty kicks. It was in the first set of sudden death shot that Egypt's Hossam Ghali put the ball off target. Emmanuel Pappoe scored Ghana's sudden-death spot-kick.

It was a game that could have gone either way with several fierce battles in midfield. Tetteh was close for Ghana in the first-half with a 25-yard shot which Egyptian keeper, Mohamed Sobhi pushed for a corner. Egypt's best chance came five minutes from normal time, but Hamza failed to prevent the match reaching extra time with only the keeper to beat.

In the other semi-final, Angola crushed Ethiopia 5-2 to reach their first ever Nations Cup final match. The young Palancas Negras opened a two-goal lead after 13 minutes with goals by Lourenco Tomas and skipper Gilberto Amaral. Six minutes later Yordanos Abay reduced the scores for the host from a lovely direct freekick, but the goal did little to inspire his side.

Benfica bound Mantorras scored the third goal before halftime and added the fourth for Angola after play resumed, to become the top scorer of the tournament. Ethiopia fought back, when Yordanos was on target midway in the second-half, heading from a freekick.

The hosts piled pressure for a while but Angola also pushed forward with Mantorras coming close with some chances. Angola finally sealed their win with the fifth goal by midfielder Viana Mendonca with a minute left to play.
