Ghana, Argentina's Foreign Legion Top Pack At Athens

Coach Mariano Barreto?s 22-man squad to the summer Olympics has attracted international attention for its predominant foreign-based component.

Ghana and Argentina are the top two countries with the highest number of players who ply their trade abroad.

Both teams have 14 players each playing outside their native lands.

The Meteors have 8 locally based players including the two goalkeepers and 6 up field players.

Most of the foreign-based members play in the major leagues in Europe.

At the other end of the spectrum, all the Greek and Italian players are with home based clubs, while Japan has a solitary overseas-based player-Shinji Ono of Anderlecht.

The youngest player in the tournament will be Iraq?s Attiya Saad, who at just 17 is almost half the age of the tournament?s oldest player Carlos Gamarra of Paraguay.

The soccer tournament kicks off on August 11.
