Ghalca threatens to boycott league

Accra, July 4,GNA- The Ghana League Club Association, (GHALCA) has threatened to boycott the ongoing Kinapharmah premier league in the event of any attempt by the Ghana Broadcasting Corporations to cover, produce or transmit any match played without fulfilling demands of the clubs. In a three-page resolution released by the association and signed by twelve out of the sixteen league clubs, the Ghalca resolved to take steps to use all means necessary to prevent the broadcast of any match of the Kinapharma league by the GBC.

According to information gathered by GNA Sports, Ghalca, is insisting that it is not a party to an alleged contract between the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Crystal TV, a Kumasi based television station and as a result would not permit GBC or Crystal TV to telecast any of the league games. The association said it is unbelievable that Crystal TV, fully aware of the breach by the GBC, which has created a-yet-to be resolved impasse between the GBC, GFA and Ghalca, went ahead by virtue of a contract with the GFA without the Ghalca, to contract the GBC to telecast the matches on its behalf.

Ghalca said since the GBC is yet to honour its claims to compensate the FA, Ghalca and Accra Hearts of Oak respectively for the flagrant breach of contract, the Ghalca, as joint owners of broadcast rights will not allow GBC or Crystal TV to telecast or comment on any of the league games. It would be recalled that the GBC on Sunday, June 15, broadcast the first half of a league match live without broadcast rights. The match is questioning involved Accra Hearts of Oak and B.A. United at the Accra Sports Stadium.
