Berekum Chelsea and AshantiGold are set for a massive battle for the top spot as the 2014/2015 Ghana Premier League enters the final seven rounds. While Paul Aidoo and Kofi Owusu gave Chelsea a 2-0 win over Liberty Professionals on Wednesday, AshantiGold failed to beat New Edubaise United in the local derby in Obuasi after the match ended goalless.

The results mean the four-point lead AshGold held before the week 23 fixtures has been slashed to two. Obviously, there will be pressure on Bashir Hayford and his charges, who are bent on ending their trophy drought which spans two decades.

Elsewhere, Accra Hearts of Oak recorded their biggest win of the season after defeating Heart of Lions 4-0 in Cape Coast. The Phobians, prior to the meeting, had lost four matches and drawn one across three domestic competitions.

The win, however, comes in handy as they seek to urgently revive their fortunes. Four first half goals from Selasie Adjei, a brace from Foovi Aguidi and Eric Kumi’s strike were all Eddy Ansah’s boys needed to move out of the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Lions, by virtue of the defeat have dropped into the bottom three.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko suffered another defeat after falling 1-0 to WAFA in Sogakope.

Nathaniel Asamoah increased his goal tally from thirteen to fifteen after grabbing a brace in their 2-0 win over Bechem United in Tarkwa.

BA United and Accra Great Olympics shared the spoils at the Sunyani Coronation Park as the two sides settled for a 1-1 draw. The two sides are still in the bottom three, and will need to work extra hard to beat the drop.

Inter-Allies moved to the fourth position after posting a 2-0 win over Sekondi Hasaacas. A 1-0 victory ensured Wa All Stars stood tall in their battle with Aduana Stars.
