Former Ashgold boss gets new appointment

Accra, July 12, GNA - Months after he left his job at the Premier League side, AshantiGold Sporting Club, Mr Andrews Sam has been appointed as the Deputy Chief Operating Officer of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the Ghana CAN 2008.

Dr Kofi Amoah, Chairman of the LOC Board in his comment on the appointment in a Press release copied to the GNA Sports, said Mr Sam will bring to the Secretariat a plethora of skills experience, commitment and excellence in career achievements.

He said the former Ashgold boss will also support the Committee with his passion for sports which will undoubtedly be of immense benefit to the hosting and organisation of the tournament. "I'm very much assured that this appointment is now well positioned to deliver a world-class organisation and hosting of the CAN 2008 tournament and to add to the brilliant international image the nation has attained over the years. Mr Sam is a chartered accountant by profession and has held both local and international positions.

He served as the proprietor/consultant of Andrew Sam and associates of United Kingdom, Director of International Audit for World Vision International and Chief Executive of Pisces Consulting Limited, Ghana. Mr Sam is a product of Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, (UK) and served with the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in various roles including the training of officers and officer cadets at the Ghana Military Academy, as well as the Regimental Adjutant with the United Nations Emergency Forces in the Sinai Desert. At Ashgold, he is credited with embarking on several innovations leading to the dismantling of old structures and attitudes and replacing them with the appropriate infrastructure for long term commercial viability. 12 July 06
