Fan loses forefinger in quarrel over Hearts - Olympics match

Accra July 29, GNA- An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday remanded into prison custody a Kwesi Appiah, a 32-year-old trader for biting off the left forefinger of a colleague during a quarrel about the eighth week Kinapharma league match involving Accra Hearts of Oak and Accra Great Olympics.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge of causing harm and the court presided over Mr. Justice S.G Okraku remanded him into prison custody to reappear on August 12.

The facts of prosecuting Inspector Joseph Hemeng are that the complainant, Alex Okyere and Appiah are friends who sell at Kantamanto in Accra.

Two weeks ago, they both attended the football match between Accra Hearts of Oak and city rival Accra Great Olympics at the Accra Sports Stadium.

At the end of the match, a hot argument ensued between them on the performance of both teams. The argument nearly degenerated into a fight but onlookers separated the two soccer fans.

The prosecution said on July 21, Okyere and Appiah met at a communication centre and a similar quarrel began which ended in a fight. In the process, Appiah bit off Okyere's left forefinger.

The prosecutor said a report was made to the police and due to the seriousness of the injury, accused was charged to appear before the court.
