FIFA did not advise GFA to say Taylor is free.

Accra, July 18, GNA - The World soccer controlling body FIFA, has said it did not at any point in time advised the Ghana Football Association (GFA) that compensation be paid to Accra Hearts of Oak in order to declare Charles Taylor "free". An e-mail message from the Hearts Secretariat purported to have been sent by the club's consultant Ibrahim Saanie Daara from UK who sought FIFA's reaction on the GFA's ruling on Taylor, said FIFA received a letter from the Ghanaian FA seeking specific guidance on the player's dispute.

The FIFA said it wrote back 10 days later to the Ghanaian FA that the case was an internal matter and thus must be solved by the GFA internally. The message said the GFA later informed the FIFA that the case has been resolved and based on this information the FIFA said it wrote to the GFA on July 15, this year, that once the period of suspension imposed on the player by the GFA has elapsed "he should be able to continue his career without further compensation due to his former club".

The GFA last week imposed a 650 million-cedi fine on Taylor plus a four-month suspension for breaching his contract with Accra Hearts of Oak after which he (Taylor) would be free to play for his yet-to-be club Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
