FCPPL match day five wrap: Ashgold returns to the top

Ashanti Gold returned to the summit of the First Capital Plus Premier League log after a 2-1 win over Bechem United in Obuasi on Wednesday afternoon.

Shafiu Mumuni put the Miners ahead four minutes from half time with a converted spot kick, but Noah Martey leveld for the visitors on the hour mark.

Bernard Morrison restored Ashanti Gold’s lead four minutes later and the hosts held on for the three points.

Hasaacas jumped to second place both on goal difference and on a superior head to head record after a 2-0 victory over Aduana Stars in Sekondi. Freddie Quayson scored twelve minutes before half time and Amos Korankye wrapped up the points with a strike on the hour mark.

Stephen Baffour’s good form continued with a goal as Berekum Chelsea defeated Great Olympics 1-0 in Berekum to jump to fourth, whilst Asante Kotoko drops to fifth after a 0-0 draw with Wa All Stars in Wa.

Hearts of Oak had to rely on a late header from midfielder Richard Yamoah to halt a run of consecutive defeats in a 1-1 draw with Liberty Professionals in Accra. Tamimu Muntari had given Liberty Professionals the lead in the 18th minute and the lads from Dansoman looked good for three points until Yamoah’s intervention a minute to time.

West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) climbed out of the relegation places by beating Medeama SC 1-0 in Sogakope. A strike by Zakaria Mumuni six minutes from time sealed the point for the Premier League new boys.

Francis Kyeremeh saved B.A. United from certain defeat in Sunyani after scoring in the 89th minute to rescue a point in a 1-1 draw with Heart of Lions. Tanko Mohammed had given Heart of Lions the lead early in the second half, before Kyeremeh’s intervention late on.

Sherrif Mohammed was on target twice as Inter Allies secured a 2-0 win over New Edubiase United in Tema.
