FC Nania wins in India

KANNUR, India: FC Nania of Ghana won the inaugural match of Nayanar Memorial International Gold Cup Football Tournament beating, Indian side, State Bank of Travancore Kerala 1-0 at the Jawahar Stadium here on Sunday.

The solitary goal, that decided the match-winner, was scored by Nartey Ebenzer in the first half of the match.

The second half was goal less with SBT’s efforts to return the goal turning futile. The tournament was inaugurated by CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan.

Sports and Youth Affairs Minister M Vijayakumar presided over the function. A P Abdullakutty MP, Kannur municipal chairman K Upendraan, IG of police M N Krishna Murthy, District Collector Ishita Roy, State Sports Council president T P Dasan offered felicitations.

Earlier, M V Govindan, chairman of the organising committee, welcomed the gathering. M V Jayarajan, convenor of the committee, proposed a vote of thanks. On Monday SBT will take on Pakistan XI.
