Every Group for the 2015 AFCON is tough - Jonathan Mensah

Ghana defender Jonathan Mensah says the Black Stars believes every Group for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations is tough and insists there are no minnows in African football.

The Black Stars have been paired in Group C alongside 1990 hosts and champions Algeria, 1996 winners South Africa and 2002 runners-up Senegal.

The four time African Champions are desperate to bring an end to a run of over three decade without an African trophy in Equatorial Guinea next month.

But pundits have written off the Black Stars are drawing title favourites but Mensah disagrees.

“Every group is a group of death depending on how you see it. Many are saying that our group is very strong and is the group of death,” the Evian TG player.

“So then what happens to Group D which has the likes of Cameroon, Guinea, Mali and Ivory Coast all bagged in one group.

“I can go on and on, but all the 16 countries that are coming to the tournament are very good and none of them should be underrated because that will be dangerous.”

“No Group is easy and that is the reality of the draw because all the countries have formidable squads coming to the competition. The fact that Nigeria could not qualify should tell us that this AFCON would not be based on past glory.”
