Essien set for groin surgery in Germany

Ghana international Michael Essien has left Panathinaikos’ pre-season camp for Munich where he is scheduled for a groin surgery, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.

The 32-year-old was spotted in Athens Airport as he flew to Germany’s capital – Munich on Monday to undergo a surgery on his problematic groin.

Renowned German female surgeon Ulrike Mousavek is expected to carry out the operation for the former Chelsea and Real Madrid star on Wednesday morning.

Panathinaikos, who signed the midfielder last month, have confirmed the midfielder’s situation and have excluded him from their squad for the Uefa Champions League third round tie.
