Essien resumes light training

Ghana and Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has resumed light training, a development that comes as a big relief to Chelsea coach Andre Villas-Boas and the Ghanaian football community.

Essien has been out for nearly four months now with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, but the midfielder started ball-work, passing and training drills on Friday.

The former Lyon star was part of various sprint exercises at Chelsea’s training ground and medics believe that he could be back soon.

Essien crashed out with his injury in the first week of pre-season work in July. His career has been dogged with injury setbacks in recent times.

He is expected to undertake other careful rehabilitation exercises leading to a full recovery later next month.
