Dwarfs trounce Vipers

Cape Coast Sept.15, GNA-Cape Coast 'Ebusua' Dwarfs, on Sunday gave their local rivals, Venomous Vipers, a good trouncing, by beating them 3-1 in their Division One League match played at the Cape Coast sports stadium.

Vipers who started the match as if they were going to bury their rivals nearly went ahead in the 5th minute, but outside right, John Gyasi's goal bound shot was scooped from the net by Dwarfs' defender, George Coleman.

Dwarfs, counter attacked, and in the process earned a free kick in the 9th minute, and centre half, Richard Ackon, who elected himself for the kick, scored with a classic pile driver.

In spite of this, Vipers continued to dictate the pace of the game and raided Dwarfs' vital area on several occasions, but poor shooting at goal denied them the equaliser.

In the 20th minute, Dwarfs turned the tide in their favour and pinned Vipers into their own half and in the 28th minute, centre forward, Walters Mensah, registered the second goal, after Vipers' goalkeeper Joseph Duah had fumbled with a shot from outside left, Nana Kwei.

Realising that the 'going was getting tougher', Vipers, replaced Duah with Samuel Yeboah but that change, did not deter Dwarfs from raising the tally to 3-0 through Mensah again, in the 49th minute. Nana Kwei after collecting a pass from the left flank, outpaced two Vipers' defenders and passed the ball to Mensah to score. In the dying minutes, Vipers re-gained control of the match and scored a consolation goal through outside left, Muntikari Alhassan in the 65th minute.

The result of another match played in the division, was Bafana 1, Iron Fighters 1
