Curfew Hits Bechem As Soccer Fans Go on Rampage

The Brong Ahafo Regional Security Council Upon consultative authority from the regional minister has imposed a curfew on the Bechem township as angry football supporters believed to be fans of home-based Bechem united went on rampage and blocked the main road passing Bechem from Kumasi in an attempt to attack the traveling supporters of B A Stars who beat Bechem United to secure the sole ticket to premiership at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The angry supporters who were armed to the teeth layed ambush, smashing car windscreens, deflating tyres and even went to the extent of burning cars returning from sunyani with innocent passengers.It took the security intelligence of the police and army personell to stop the huge traveling fans of B A Stars in a nearby bush to prevent any casualty in the township. Over Two Hundred (200) vehicles were qued in the bushes for close to 2 hours.

The horrific incidents in the Bechem township grew wild when electricity power went off in the in a purported action to intensify the tention and this prompted the security personell to redirect the route of the B A Stars supporters from Tepa through Acherensua and finally to Sunyani Police escort. The Regional security therefore acted swiftly to impose the curfew in the town around 22:00GMT to forestall calm in the vicinity.

Meanwhile this did not deter the jubilation in the Sunyani Municipality as B A Stars qualification into the elite division of Ghana Football sparked wild celebration in the capital throughout the night. B. A who have played for seven (7) seasons in the First division secured qualification only after controversially changing their name this season from united to stars, the name with which they played first in the premier league in the early 60's.
