Confusion in Kotoko Board over Herbert

Kumasi Asante Kotoko's quest to rewrite the history books of Ghana soccer on the 8th of December in their second leg clash with Wydad Casablanca might look very positive on the field of play but the camaraderie exhibited in the past weeks by management and board is just a make-up.

Credible information available to the Network Herald indicates that, the Porcupine Warriors' last Board Meeting lasted for only 13 minutes as confusion arose over the status of CEO, Herbert Kwabena Amponsah Mensah.

The source said, the agenda for the meeting which was about raising funds for the Cup Winners Cup final, a review of the just-ended league, preparation for next season and media development plans was totally thrown off board.

Network Herald sources say two members of the Board at the beginning of the meeting questioned when CEO, Herbert Mensah would quit and hand over the day-to-day administration of the club. Other members who were shocked about the timing of the question, which was not part of the agenda, kicked against it.

The situation is said to have turned for a free for all as members exchanged words. Just as the "war of words" was going on, CEO Herbert Mensah arrived at the meeting and upon hearing the "new" agenda, stepped out of the meeting.

Some members of the Board who are backing Herbert to remain in office also checked out of the meeting in protest. Absent from the meeting was Board Chairman, P.V Obeng, who was said to be out of the country.

Further investigations by the Network Herald indicate that, the Board of Directors of Asante Kotoko set up by the club's life Patron, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is torn between the two factions - the pro-Herbert team and those not in favour of the CEO.

While some members of the Board are bent on seeing him stay in office for the next season others believe, Herbert should go. The Board of Directors are expected to hold a meeting before the grand finale in Kumasi against Wydad of Morocco and it is expected that, this major issue would be thrashed out as some members are to be cautioned.

If things don't go on well, then the Board of Directors might be called once again to Manhyia Palace though the Otumfuo is against the idea of the club's matters coming to the Palace for settlement.
