Coca Cola is new title sponsor of GHALCA Top Four

Accra, Oct. 13, GNA - Soft drink giants, Coca Cola, is the new title sponsor of the prestigious Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) Top Four soccer competition with a lump sum of 1.2 billion cedis. Coca Cola takes over from LG Electronics, which sponsored last year's competition with 400 million cedis.

Mr Kudjo Fianoo, Administrative Manage of GHALCA, told the GNA Sports on Monday that Coca Coal's offer does not shut the doors for other companies which would want to have a "bite" of the competition, to be grafted in".

He said apart from the title sponsorship, there are other segments which could be shared by other corporate organisations as it is normally the case in European competitions and other professionally run leagues around the globe.

Subsequently, the association is in touch with LG Electronic and many others to be "part of this big family", Mr Fianoo told the GNA in Accra.

The competition would be officially be launched at a date yet to be announced.

GHALCA is in talks with their South African counterparts to give the competition an international flavour. However, the two are yet to agree on the venue for the maiden merger competition. Unlike Ghana's Top Four, which takes the form of a league system, the South African have the Top eight competition played on a knock out basis.

The GHALCA Top Four started two seasons ago and it features the first four top clubs at the end of each league season. 13 Oct. 2003.
