Coach Afranie retires from Sports Ministry

One of Ghana's ace coaches, Emmanuel Kwesi Afranie retires from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports as a technical director by the end of the year after about 30 years of active service.

Afranie, known in football circles as coach - hene was 60 on December 24, this year and will automatically exit from the public service in accordance with the labour laws.

He has coached all the national teams especially during his prime days including the national women soccer team, the Black Queens, which he guided to the Women's World Cup in the United States of America in 1999.

The coach-hene in 1991 also qualified the national under-17 team, which was later headed by expatriate Otoo Pfister to win gold medal for Ghana in Italy.

Six years later, he took the under-17 to the world championship hosted by Egypt to win silver and also led the national under-21 team to win silver in Argentina.

Locally, Afranie guided dethroned league champions Accra Hearts of Oak to win the 1997 premier league after the club had being in the wilderness for eight years.

He has coached almost every premier club in the country including Olympics, which dispensed of his services before the just ended Kinapharma Premier league.
