CAN 2008 fever finally grips Ho township

Ho, Jan. 18, GNA - Football fans in the Ho Municipality have finally been caught up with the 26th MTN Africa Cup of Nations soccer fever with two days to the kick-off of the tournament. Even though Ho, the Volta Regional capital is not one of the host cities, excitement for the game is high with everybody including young and old wanting to be associated with the national colours and the Black Stars replica jerseys.

Streets, vehicles, shops and houses are awash with the red, gold, green with the Black Stars paraphernalia. A number of children can be seen roaming the streets selling medium size Ghana Flags to take advantage of the fiesta. The owner of Good News shop, a popular boutique in Ho said CAN 2008 "T" shirts, Lacoste and caps are in high demand and that she sells not less than 15 "T" shirts a day.

Mr Anthony Tetteh, a student of the University of Education, Winneba, who the GNA located at a CAN 2008 souvenir shop, said it is his desire to have the souvenir to be in the "Spirit" for the tournament. The GNA Sports gathered that tickets for the first match, between Ghana and Guinea which is on sale at the Regional Post Office and the Ghana Commercial Bank were sold out a few days after their arrival with the tickets for the second match selling a snail pace. Mr Stephen Larweh, Regional Head of the Ghana Posts Services said, "There is a mad rush for the Ghana-Guinea tickets" because of the passion of Ghanaians to watch and support the national team the Black Stars to a resounding victory.
