CAF inspection team expected on November 4

Accra, Oct. 10, GNA - An inspection team from the Confederation of Africa Confederation (CAF) is expected in Accra on 4th November to embark on another assessment of facilities as Ghana prepares to host the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations.

The visit is the fourth since Ghana won the right to host the biannual tournament.

Mr Andy Sam, Deputy Chief Operating Officer of the LOC disclosed this when he met members of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) and their Burkinabe counterparts at a meeting in Accra. The Burkinabe's are in Accra to attend a Sports Journalist Confab organized by SWAG.

The visit of the CAN 2008 is to afford the inspection team the opportunity to assess the rate of work so far done by the LOC to host the rest of the continent.

Mr Sam said the LOC is aims at staging an improved tournament capable of attracting a large number of viewers across the globe as compared to Egypt 2006 which had 4.5 billion audience.

He said the Egypt event also hosted 500,000 guests but Ghana is targeting a minimum of one million visitors, adding 93it is my hope that neighboring countries such as Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Togo and Cote d' Ivoire will qualify for the Ghana 2008.

According to Mr Sam, the qualification of the immediate neighbours will enhance the chances of the nation to attract the expected visitors. Mr Sam revealed that the organisation of the Global Launch was aimed at marketing the event as part of the strategies to reach the one million target.

He also said that plans have been put in place to sell advanced tickets for the event to avoid all forms of difficulties associated with the selling of tickets on match days.

Mr Sam expressed the hope that the LOC will be able to organize one of the best events on the continent.
