Boakye joins Kotoko In Cameroon

Prolific goal-scorer Isaac Boakye flies from Germany today to join a 32-man contingent of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, which leaves Accra by road tomorrow for Lome, Togo, en route to Cameroon for the first leg of the 1/8th Cup Winners Cup encounter in Douala.

Kotoko face Cameroonian side, Mont Cameroun in the Cameroonian commercial capital on Sunday, at 3:30pm at the Omnisports Stadium.

Various options as far as the travel plans are concerned are under consideration but it is likely the team would travel to Lome by road on Thursday morning before emplaning for Cameroon with Air Gabon.

On the return trip, however, the team would be flown by Air Ivoire from Douala to Abidjan from where the club’s Mercedes Benz bus would convey them to Kumasi. Isaac Boakye, the club’s super striker who has first had a successful trial with bundesliga side, HSV Hamburg, was expected back home yesterday to join the team to Douala.

The contingent, to be led by GFA member, Yaw La Danso Addo, is made up of 19 players, eight officials and five technical persons.

The players are: Louis Quainoo, George Owu, Aziz Ansah, Godfred Yeboah, Michael Ofosu-Appiah, Daniel Acquah and Daniel Yeboah. Others are Joe Hendricks, Stephen Oduro, Edmund Owusu-Ansah, Michael Asante, Joe Louis and Michael Osei. The rest are Shilla Alhassan, Nana Arhin Duah, Frank Osei, Kwame Adzagba, Isaac Owusu and Isaac Boakye. Midfield Supremo Yusif Chibsah, is not making the trip to Cameroun because he has not been registered for Africa. Kotoko secured his card ‘A’ only last Saturday.

The other officials making the trip are Sylvester Asare-Owusu, chairman of the IMC, Joe Owusu Ansah and Kwadwo Nyantakyi, both IMC members, Kojo Nyarko Akerson, the Deputy Accra Representative of the club, Sam Essuman of the Daily Graphic and Thomas Boakye Agyeman of Spirit FM of Kumasi who also doubles as a correspondent for Kotoko Express.

The technical team comprises Malik Jabir, Abdul Razak, Awudu Nuhu, Frimpong Manso and Omono Asamoah.
