Boakye, Yeboah out

Unforeseen circumstances have ruled out Isaac Boakye playing for Kotoko in Sunday’s Cup Winners Cup match against Mont Cameroun in Douala.

He is, however, likely to feature in the return leg in Kumasi in two weeks time. Information reaching the Kotoko Management from Hamburg where Boakye had a successful trial with HSV Hamburg two weeks ago says the player is currently engaged in another trial with Frankfurt FC, another Bundesliga side.

According to the message, after the first trial with Frankfurt, the club was so impressed with the player’s performance that it asked him to stay for further trials.

This development made it impossible for Boakye to fly down on Tuesday as originally planned to join his colleagues for the trip to Douala.

Boakye scored three goals in as many trials with Hamburg, following which the club expressed the desire to sign him on.

On account of his superlative performance in the LG Top Four tournament, Boakye has become the toast of Kotoko fans, who had hoped he was going to be a key figure in their bid for the league title.

Another key figure in the Kotoko set up, Godfred Yeboah also did not make the trip as a result of a waist injury he picked from the Black Meteors camp a few days ago. Yeboah’s inability to make the trip whittles down the number of players from 18 to 17.

The chairman of the IMC, Sylvester Asare Owusu, who disclosed this expressed the hope that Yeboah would recover in time for the return leg in Kumasi.
