Black Stars begin AFCON training in Accra with 14 players

The Black Stars opened preparations ahead of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations with fourteen players training on New Year’s Eve.

The players performed drills for the first time under newly appointed physical trainer Jamie Lawrence.

Head coach Avram Grant was not present at the session which took place at the Lizzy Sports Complex in Accra.

Maxwell Konadu thus took charge of the session which lasted about an hour and a half.

Captain Asamoah Gyan led his team through some physical drills before taking part in a possession kick about session.

Nothing serious was done on the opening day of training.

The number of players at training is expected to increase when the team assembles for another session after New Year’s Day.

Players at first day training:

Asamoah Gyan, Mohammed Awal, Frank Acheampong, Edwin Gyimah, Ibrahim Moro, Jonathan Mensah, Enoch Adu Kofi, David Accam, Daniel Amartey, Mohammed Rabiu, Kwabena Edusei, Stephen Adams, Fatau Dauda and Ernest Sowah.
