Black Queens resumes camp

The national women soccer team, the Black Queens resumed camp on Monday upon completion of last Saturday's Greater Accra Women Soccer gala which was played at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Twenty-four locally based members of the team and officials reported to camp on Monday afternoon and are expected to plunge into serious training on Tuesday.

The team broke camp on last Thursday enable all teams in the gala competition to have full complement of their players in the national team.

The competition was won by Post Ladies who defeated the defending champions, Accra Ghatel Ladies by a lone goal to win the trophy at stake.

It was glaring during the one-day competition that most of the players presently in the Queens camp were match fit and better than their team mates who are not part of the national team.

Coach Oko Aryee who watched the gala from the stands testified to this assertion when the GNA Sports caught up with him.

He however said it was unlikely that other players would be invited to join the team presently adding that, 'there are enough and capable players in camp already and it is unlikely that other players would be needed to beef up the squad' he said

He said the team was improving by the day and expressed optimism that the best out of the lot would be selected before the team embarks upon serious trials in May.

On the foreign based players, the coach said arrangements were being made for midfield and dribbling wizard, Adjoa Bayor and Kulu Yahaya who are now through with their semester examinations to join their colleagues at home while Alberta Sackey, a member of the FIFA world XI slated to play in China, join the team at a later date.
