Awuah Nyamekye made Acting President of GFA

Accra, May 24, GNA 96 Mr Awuah Nyamekye, a member of the Emergency Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has been appointed acting President of Association.

A statement signed by the President of the Association, Kwasi Nyantakyi, who is currently away on official duty copied to the GNA Sports said the acting President's tenure of office starts from May 24 2005.

The FA President left on Tuesday night for Austria to be with the Black Stars for the final phase of the team=92s preparations towards next month's World Cup in Germany.

From Austria, Mr Nyantakyi will leave for Germany to attend the FIFA Congress which is scheduled to come off from June 5-7 in Berlin, the capital of Germany.

The appointment of Awuah Nyamekye was necessitated following the absence of four of the 5-member Emergency Committee charged with the day-to-day running of the Association.

Mr Fred Pappoe, the Vice President who also doubles as the Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee is currently in Austria with Randy Abbey the FA Spokesperson whilst the last of the four, Mr Fred Crenstil is also presently in Germany also for the FIFA Congress.

Mr Nyamekye is not new to the position as he was once the Chairman of the GFA from 1991 till was torpedoed from office after leading the Stars to place second in the Senegal 1992 African Cup of Nations.

The Acting President, an ardent supporter of Kumasi Asante Kotoko football club was once a Board Member of the 'Porcupine Warriors' and is currently its Accra representative.

Mr Nyamekye became a member of the present GFA set-up after he was elected as one of the six representatives of the Premier League Clubs to serve on the Executive Committee of the GFA.
