Asamoah Gyan – “Sunderland can’t blame me"

Asamoah Gyan is adamant he can’t be blamed for Sunderland getting the wrong end of the deal for his permanent transfer to United Arab Emirates side Al Ain.

The Emirati club have confirmed their capture of Gyan on a reportedly bumper deal to stay at the club where he played on loan last year, with the final fee putting Sunderland of between £1million to £3m short of the record £13m they paid for the Ghanaian hitman in 2010.

But Gyan insists he is a player traded between the two clubs and cannot be held liable for any mishap on the Premier League outfit’s side. “Al Ain came that they like me and Sunderland agreed. I had no option. I don’t have any problem with any Sunderland fan but that is life,” Gyan has said in his defence.

The 26 year old added: “I will like to thank all the fans for their support. They play my music ‘African Girls’ even when I’m not at the stadium, they really love me. I love Sunderland, the fans love me but this is life. Life goes on.”

Asamoah however denies that he has already signed a permanent deal with Al Ain.

“We are still on negotiations but definitely they will like to sign me because I did well. As a striker I had to bang in the goals and I did exactly that for us to win the league. I think I had a perfect season,” Gyan said.Credit:
