Argentine referee to handle Stars-Serbia World Cup Group D game

Accra, June 7, GNA - Argentine referee Hector Baldassi will be at the helm of affairs for the Black Stars World Cup opener against Serbia on June 13 in Pretoria.

Information gathered by the GNA Sports from World soccer governing body, FIFA indicates that Baldassi will direct affairs from the middle of the opening Group D match of the first ever Mundial to be staged on African soil.

Baldassi, 44, and a businessman is making his debut at the biggest stage in World football. He will be assisted on the lines by compatriots Casas Ricardo and Maidana Hernan with Malaysian Mohd Salleh Subkhiddin acting as the fourth official.

Gek Pheng Jeffrey from Singapore will serve as the reserve assistant referee.

Meanwhile, Mexican Marco Rodriguez will handle the other Group D match involving Germany and Australia. Rodriguez will be assisted by Camargo Jose Luis and Morin Alberto, both from Mexico with Aguilar Joel of El Salvador as the fourth official and Andren Henrik of Sweden as the reserve assistant referee.
