'Appiah’s gold medal winners not better than my Meteors'

Ghana Under-23 team management committee member, Abdul Salam Yakubu claims the 2011 All Africa Games gold medal winning team assembled by Kwasi Appiah is not better than the current generation of Black Meteors players.

Appiah’s select band had players including Daniel Agyei, Edward Kpodo, Lawrence Lartey, Rashid Sumaila, Mahatma Otoo, Gladson Awako, Nathaniel Asamoah, Latif Salifu and Uriah Asante to name a few.

The current Ghana Under-23 squad boasts of players including Eric Ofori Antwi, Kennedy Ashia, Vincent Atinga, Emmanuel Osei Baffour, Conney Idan and Emmanuel Osei Baffour.

“We have a better team now because the local boys are doing well. Three seasons ago, the Kwasi Appiah team is not better than this one and we want to defend the All Africa Games trophy,” Abdul Salam said.

Coach Malik Jabir’s side will be seeking to replicate the success story of Ghana’s 2011 squad after qualifying to the Brazzaville 2015 multi-sport competition ahead of Mozambique on 2-1 aggregate.
