Amarkai congratulates Olympics

Accra, April 19, GNA - Mr Amarkai Amartefio, Board Chairman of Accra Great Olympics, the Wonder Club of Ghana soccer has on behalf of the Board congratulated Mr Eric Afotey Odai, Chairman of the Management Committee of the Club and members of the Committee on the return of the Club to the Premiership.

In a letter made available to the GNA Sports on Wednesday, Mr Amartefio, who was once the Commissioner (Minister) of Sports, lauded the Chairman and members of his management team for their commitment, sacrifices and efforts in steering the Club back to the premier division of Ghana football.

He told them that the Board would continue to count on their devotion to the cause of "our beloved Club in the days ahead." Great Olympics, once the third force of Ghana soccer got relegated controversially after placing low in a segmented league in the 2004 season, despite the fact that the league was not national in character and could therefore not be appropriately used to determine the weakest teams among the 16 teams which played in two pools of eight. The Wonder Club reshuffled the Board and Managements and teams and prosecuted their campaign in the Division One League with distinction. And in the final hurdle - the most difficult of the qualifying series - Olympics scored five wins out of five matches to finish runaway leaders and gaining back their place in the elite class.

Now, what on the mouths of the supporters, players and officials of the Club is that they would gun for the premiership title and then the African Champions League in 2007. 19 April 06
