Afranie Confident To Scoop CAF Award

Coach Emmanuel Afranie, who has been nominated for the African coach of the year award by the Confederation of African Football, says he is the most logical candidate to win the award. Afranie won the silver medal with the Under 20 national team, the Black Satellites at World Youth championship last year loosing to only the host country and eventual winners of the competition, Argentina.

Though the Ghanaian is named in the same category with the World Cup qualifying coach of Senegal, Bruno Metsu, who has been mentioned as the favourite coach of the year, Afranie says he is unfazed, and puts the favourite tag on the Senegal coach as propaganda engineered by Senegalese journalists.

Coach Afranie says his confidence is further buoyed by the fact that he is an African compared to Bruno Metsu who is a Frenchman working on the continent. The Confederation of African Football Awards ceremony will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa on Tuesday.

Three Ghanaians including Coach Afranie are in line to pick up the awards. The others are Bayern Munich Defender, Samuel Osei Kufuor for the African Footballer of the year award and Black stars midfielder, Derek Boateng for the Most Outstanding Youth Player award.
