Accra, May 22, GNA - Debutants Aduana Stars emerged the dominant fo rce at the fifth edition of the annual Premier League Board (PLB) Awards Gala
night held on Friday, May 21, at the Banquet Hall of the State House, Acc ra. The Dormaa Ahenkro-based Club still basking in their historic feat o f being the first and only Club to have annexed the Premier League crown on
their first attempt went away with four awards including the prestigious Champion Club award.
Head coach Herbert Addo was named Best Coach, right-back Godfred Sak a took the 'Most Promising Player' award with the Club's shot-stopper Steph en Adams as the 'Best Goalkeeper'. It was however coach Addo who enjoyed the most applause. Dressed wit h a cowboy hat with the Club's veil around his neck, he walked majestically towards the podium to pick his prize as 'King of Coaches' from former Bla ck Stars coach, Sam Arday amidst chants and plaudits from the well attended audience. The climax of the event was the presentation of the keys of a brand new Tata pick-up vehicle to Aduana Stars for their historic feat by the Minis ter of Youth and Sports, Ms Akua Sena Dansua.
Runners-up Obuasi Ashantigold took consolation in Chief Executive, Cudjoe Fianoo being adjudged the 'Best Chief Executive Officer' as well a s joint winners with Accra Hearts of Oak for the 'Best Functional Premier League Club Office' award category. For the second successive season, Bechem Chelsea's Lee Addy was name d 'Best Defender', keeping alive his chances of making the Black Stars' fin al 23-man squad for the South Africa 2010 FIFA World Cup. Hearts of Oak's striker Mahatma Otoo emerged tops in the 'Footballer of the Year' award category whilst his strike-partner, Samuel Afum and Kessb en FC's Bismarck Idan were adjudged joint goal kings after each netted 13-go als during the season. Liberty Professionals was named the Club with the 'Best behaved supporters' for the second year running whilst Bechem Chelsea scooped the
'Fair Play' award.
FIFA referee Thomas Nunoo was crowned 'Best Referee' whilst David Laryea maintained his status as the 'Best Assistant Referee.' Augustine Asante was decorated as 'Best Match Commissioner' with Stephen Asamoah as 'Best PLB Cameraman.' Thirty (30) media institutions made of the print and electronic were
also recognized for their contributions to the 2009/2010 Glo Premier Leag ue. There were also special awards for sponsors and partners with headli ne sponsors Glo Mobile Ghana taking home the Platinum Award, Optimum Media Prime - Gold, Tata Africa Holdings Ghana Limited - Silver, Voltic Ghana Limited - Bronze, whilst a special award were conferred on Nana Obiri Yeboah, the web designer of the Ghana Football Association's (GFA) websit e. The event, which officially wraps up the 2009/2010 season, was atten ded by the cr=E8me de la cr=E8me of Ghana football including Administrators, traditional authorities, Officials, sponsors, media and supporters amongs t others.
