Abedi backs Kwasi Appiah for success

Football legend Abedi Pele has welcomed the appointment of Kwasi Appiah as the full time coach of the national team and is backing his former international teammate to make local coaches proud.

Abedi who steered his own Division One League club, Nania FC, to an astonishing MTN FA Cup glory last year, hails Appiah’s appointment as the right decision and a belief that there are good coaches right here in Ghana who can do the job.

“It’s fantastic, it’s a good idea that they have chosen a local man. It’s welcome news for local coaches. You have the people here and you go for others from elsewhere. It’s a good decision,” Pele said in an exclusive interview.

Whilst praying Appiah’s appointment paves the way for more local coach appointment to the hot sea in future, The Maestro is also cautioning the nation’s football chiefs to give Kwasi Appiah the requisite support and most importantly time. “The only thing is that they have to make it continue, this should not be the last,” Abedi told www.sportsinghana.com.

The 3-time African Footballer of the year added: “They must have confidence in him and let him coach for a long time. They must also help him with all the support he needs to succeed.”
