Another ‘Coup’ In NPP

-As Akomea Annuls ‘Serial Callers’ Election

Reports reaching The aL-hAJJ indicate that Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akomea has annulled elections organized by the party’s Serial Callers Association after loyalists of the 2016 flag bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo protested its outcome.
Party insiders disclosed to this paper that soon after Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, who supervised the election in July last year was suspended, the serial callers were recently invited to a meeting during which one Lord-La, a known ally of Nana Akufo-Addo and who until the elections was President of the Serial callers association claimed the previous election was conducted in his absence, therefore it was a coup d’état.

Sources say even though the number required to form a quorum was met, Lord-La insisted that “because the election was conducted in his absence, it must be annulled for fresh election to be conducted.”

“At the time the election was held, Lord-La, who was then the President of the serial callers, was not around. While others said the election should be postponed because of his absence, others said because the other executives were present, the election should hold and moreover we had the numbers needed to form quorum,” the source stated.

The source added that “Kwabena Agyapong and Yaw Adomako Baafi were present but Kwabena later left and the election came on and the newly elected executives were duly sworn in by Moses who was the electoral commissioner for the day.”

Executives elected at the July 2015 polls were Ato Benney, President; Alhassan Ashaiman, vice President; Alex Asante, organizer; Hajia Adams, Secretary and KK, deputy secretary.

“Before the election, Odehyia who was then outgoing organizer and had given indication to contest the vice President position walked out of the meeting because his wish that election be postponed was not granted.”

According to the source, despite the issues that characterized the election, the newly elected executives visited former President Kufuor and Nana Akufo-Addo in their respective homes to introduce themselves to them.

“Both Nana and Kufuor pledged their support for them and tasked them to work hard to ensure NPP wins the 2016 election,” the source added.

Another party insider told The aL-hAJJ that “ever since these new executives were elected, they have known no peace. This is because two of Nana Akufo-Addo’s favorites, Lord-La and Odehyia are not part of the executives.”

“People secretly went to Nana to tell him that the newly elected executives are not his favorites so he should find a way to get rid of them and bring back Lord-La and Odehyia.”

As a way to bring back Nana Akufo-Addo’s preferred candidates, the source revealed that a meeting was convened at the party’s headquarters on December 28 last year by the Director of Communications, Nana Akomea, who annulled the election that elected the Ato Binney-led administration.”

“That day some of the newly elected executives were there. Nana Akomea, John Boadu, Yaw Adomako Baafi, Mike Ocquaye Jnr and others were all present when Akomea annulled the election and announced that fresh elections will be conducted at the end of this month (January),” the source revealed.

This development is said to have created confusion among the serial callers. “Some of our colleagues are threatening not to participate in the new election whiles others too are complaining that Akomea and his people want to skew the election in favor of Nana Addo’s men.”
“But, others believe the election was annulled because Odehyia and Lord-La are not part of the executives and that they want to do everything possible to bring them back. I don’t understand why Akufo Addo and Akomea would be so much interested in our elections that they have ended up creating this confusion,” the source added.
