Gov’t Spends Gh¢200,000 …To Destabilize FONKAR

Information reaching The Citizen Newspaper indicates that the NDC government has allegedly doled out over GH¢200,000 to destabilize FONKAR after realizing that NDC party cannot do without the support of FONKAR.
The government, according to the information, resorted to covert and overt attacks on FONKAR members who had refused to heed to the directives of the government to renounce their membership.
According to investigation by The Citizen Newspaper, the government is embarking on a mission to make certain that FONKAR is dissolved because those who say they can do without the support of the Rawlingses have now realized after testing the popularity of the party’s presidential candidate cum the sitting president, Professor John Evans Atta Mills that the ground is not fertile for the party.
In spite of attempts by government and its functionaries to create the impression that all is well between the sitting President Atta Mills and his political father former President Jerry John Rawlings, there are strong indications that a form of frigid relations between the two personalities exists as the government machinery continue to vilify the membership of FONKAR and any other person seen around the founder of the party, former president Jerry John Rawlings.

FONKAR members are fighting over the group’s continued existence as some members are said to have been paid to foment trouble by coming out to announce that a group that has grown bigger is dissolved overnight. Surprisingly, anytime such declarations are made, the majority of the FONKAR membership comes out to challenge the authority of those making the declaration.

The modus operandi has changed as government’s attempt to have FONKAR dissolved hits the rock. This time, government officials have resorted to meeting FONKAR members on one-on-one basis, doling out mouth watering packages, including money as one of the boys is said to have collected GH¢15,000 from a prominent individual who played a key role in the NDC transition team in 2009, with the promise to help the government to dissolve FONKAR.

Little did they know that FONKAR as it stands now is bigger than what was apparently founded before the Sunyani Congress.
According to the National Deputy Organizer, FONKAR is still growing and if the rickety ones who have fallen off and have joined the fair weather friends to grab their share of the monies being sprinkled around by the government, they should shut up and enjoy their booty rather than go round peddling falsehood about the group because whatever malicious agenda they have been rented to carry out can never materialize so far as majority of the group remained united to propagate the real ideology of NDC and not the rented one from CPP that the current leadership of the party are trying to smuggle through.

The announcement made by some members of the group believed to have benefited from the money sprinkling machines of the Atta Mills’ government angered the entire membership of FONKAR to come out with a strong worded counter statement from the leading members of the group including its Deputy National Organiser, Mr. Ibrahim Hardi, Upper West and Upper East regional secretaries, Abdulai Majeed, Salifu Ali and Kamil Jefaru, in which they trashed their colleague’s claim while pledging their undaunted support for the Rawlingses, adding that they will continue to stand bold and defend the ideologies of the true NDC, come what may.

They say Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings is the life patron by virtue of the use of her name in the group’s activities and the final authority as to whether the group continues to operate or not, lies in her hand.
Some of the die-hard sympathizers of the Rawlingses this reporter talked to stated categorically that government officials can continue to spread money around to entice some of their followers who are greedy to champion the cause of the government but that cannot dissolve FONKAR.
The Citizen Newspaper’s investigation indicates that there are some government officials carrying a money bag, moving from one region to another filling the pockets of some FONKAR members who allowed themselves to be bribed in a bid to destabilize the group.
According to information available to this paper, wherever such monies are sprinkled, people quickly hold press conferences to renounce their membership. Typical examples are Ashanti Region, Northern Region and Central Region.
So far, each FONKAR member that these money men managed to convince was given GH¢10,000, with other promises such as cars and at some point, motor-bikes.
So far, government has spent over GH¢200,000 on this agenda. By the time they accomplish their mission, only God knows how much money will go down the drain.
The money train is currently en-route to the Western Region and Volta Region.
