Difie To Partner Nana Addo

THE RACE within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to get a suitable running mate for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the party’s presidential candidate in the December general elections, continues to get keener every passing day.

The latest kid on the block, who has been proposed by party insiders to form a ‘winning pair’ with Nana, is Mrs. Difie Dedo Agyarko-Kusi, a 58-year old international jurist and multi-linguist.

A Tamale-based group, calling itself Northern Region Action Youth in Development (NRAYD), has added its voice to the search for the next Vice President of the Republic, stressing that a good running mate would further boost the chances of the party in the northern part of the country.

The call was contained in an appeal dated 6th March, 2008 to the flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo and signed by the group’s top executive, including the Chairman, Alhaji Mumuni Abdul-Rahman; Secretary, Abubakari S. Alhassan and Women’s Organizer, Madam Adisa Idrisu.

“We the youth in the North wish to passionately appeal to Hon. Nana Akufo-Addo, the flagbearer of our results-oriented NPP in the December 7, 2008 presidential and parliamentary elections, to give the mantle of running-mate to Madam Difie to boost the chances of the party in Northern Ghana and Ashanti Region,” the group said.

According to the members, Difie is not only admired by the people of Northern Ghana and beyond, but also believed to be capable of carrying out the duties of a vice president to help steer the affairs of the country.

Describing her as a true-blue party member, the group said she is highly respected because of her track-record, and opined that picking her as running mate would make the race an easy battle.

“Madam Difie’s role as a staunch and ardent dyed-in-the-wool and full-blooded member of the Danquah-Busia tradition cannot be overlooked as she commands a lot of goodwill amongst the rank and file of our great party”.

The group congratulated the flagbearer for winning the last December congress that picked him as candidate, and noted that as president-in-waiting, his victory is already a foregone conclusion.

Before the latest proposal for Mrs. Agyarko-Kusi to partner Nana Addo, the names of Mrs. Oboshie Sai-Cofie and Hajia Alima Mahama, both of them ministers in the present administration, had been speculated on in the media.
