Bishop calls on clergy to stop preaching confused messages

The Bishop of the Effiduase Diocese of the Methodist Church, the Right Reverend Moses Quayson has urged the clergy ensure correct Bible teachings and stop what he labeled “the confused messages”.

He said the expectation is that “true men of God” would thoroughly study and have a better understanding of the scriptures to teach the truth.

He said the clergy should also provide leadership and become a good example not only to the congregation but the rest of the society.

Bishop Quayson made this statement while opening the 17th annual synod of the church at the Achinakrom Methodist Wesley Chapel in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality.

The five-day meeting is being held on the theme “Witnessing to Christ; Teaching for effective Christian transformation, a shared responsibility.”

It is meant to provide a platform for the church to do self-examination and identify ways to enhance its growth.

Bishop Quayson mocked false teachings on the air waves by many self-professed pastors and priests. He said, “this is not doing any good to the Christian ministry.”

He reminded Christians to make a difference in the society, by refusing to be associated with anything indecent, shameful and evil.

They should be modest, humble, disciplined, tolerant, and forgiving just as Jesus Christ did, he said.

He asked members of the church to become abreast of its constitution, standing orders, and traditions to prevent unhealthy practices.

Bishop Quayson urged the synod to develop innovative ways of generating more funds to support the socio-economic development of the people and the church’s evangelism.

He told the meeting that a member of the church, now based in the United States, has made available GHc20,000.00 to assist in the construction of a chapel for the Atonsu Society.
