Presbyterian Church launches "Millennium Development Fund"

Accra, Dec. 21, GNA - The Presbyterian Church of Ghana, on Sunday launched a fund named "Millennium Development Fund" with the primary aim of diversifying income sources to improve its financial base. The Fund would be used to support the Church's investment projects at the national level, regional, and district levels.

Right Reverend Dr. Yaw Frimpong-Manso, Moderator of the Church's General Assembly, who launched the fund at a Church service said, "The days of relying solely on the tithes and offertory from members of the congregations for the smooth running of the church are gone. "We need to develop pragmatic ways of generating funds both from within and outside the congregations for the development of church infrastructure and for evangelism and social services," he said. The service was organised in honour of the early missionaries and pathfinders of the Church under the theme: "The Humble Origin of Jesus Christ".

Rt. Rev. Dr Frimpong-Manso challenged members of the Church to contribute at least one cedi each monthly to the fund for the next three years. He advised the congregation to go out on December 28, 2008 and vote massively for a leader who has the interest of the nation at heart. 21 Dec. 08
